Newcastle United have announced their squad numbers for the 2025/26 season, with a couple of minor changes included.
With the new campaign just a few days away, the time has come for the Magpies to announce their squad numbers. While there has been a lot of speculation over his future in recent weeks, Alexander Isak’s name and number were included on the list, with the Sweden international keeping his No.14 shirt for another year.
There were some absentees on the list, however, due to ongoing transfer speculation. Odysseas Vlachodimos has not taken his No.19 shirt for another season, for example. It has been reported that Vlachodimos is heading to Sevilla on loan, and Newcastle United are paying the majority of his wages.
Additionally, Nick Pope has now taken the No.1 shirt at Newcastle following Martin Dubravka’s permanent transfer to Burnley. Pope’s previous number is yet to be taken by anyone else.
Malick Thiaw has many numbers to choose from. The German international has completed his medical with the Magpies, and is set to be announced as a Newcastle player imminently.
Meanwhile, Eddie Howe has opted to give a squad number to one player who seriously impressed during pre-season.

Seung-soo Park missing from Newcastle United’s squad number announcement
Having signed from Suwon Bluewings this summer, Seung-soo Park was thrown straight into the deep end at Newcastle, coming on for games against Team K-League and Tottenham Hotspur.
Howe was seriously impressed with Seung-soo and gave him a start at St James’ Park in their pre-season friendly against Espanyol last week. The 18-year-old impressed as fans looked on in awe at one of their new signings.

Seung-soo’s inclusion in pre-season and the Espanyol game suggested that he could be a part of Newcastle’s first-team squad next season, but when the squad numbers list was announced, Seung-soo was nowhere to be seen.
The youngster had been wearing the No.64 during pre-season, but his number was not displayed on the list. Seung-soo will likely play for Newcastle’s Under-21s for his first season on Tyneside, as it has already been decided that he will not leave on loan.
While his number was not listed on the X post, his name and number was listed on newcastleunited.com’s article, listing him as an academy player.
Jacob Murphy called Seung-soo a ‘magician‘, but he will have to wait for his next opportunity to play alongside him at St James’ Park.
Harrison Ashby and Alex Murphy included in Newcastle United squad number announcement
Two other players who got a chance to impress in pre-season were defenders Harrison Ashby and Alex Murphy.
The pair spent last season out on loan, with Ashby playing for QPR and Murphy playing for Bolton. However, it looks as though they could both stay on Tyneside for the 2025/26 season, as their usual squad numbers were included in the announcement.
Howe was very impressed with Ashby’s ‘attitude‘, with the 22-year-old playing as a midfielder for Newcastle’s loss to Atletico Madrid, despite being a natural right-back.
Additionally, Murphy was given multiple opportunities to prove why he should be playing regular Premier League football. Murphy turned heads in the 4-0 loss to Celtic, and looks as though he will remain around the first team next season.
The moves make sense for both players, as Matt Targett’s future remains unclear, and Kieran Trippier has interest from AS Monaco.
