Longtime Celtics owner no longer governor despite plans to stay through 2028

Wyc Grousbeck will no longer stay on as governor as part of the Boston Celtics' $6.1 billion sale to Bill Chisholm.

Wyc Grousbeck, the Boston Celtics’ longtime majority owner for 23 years, will no longer serve as the team’s governor.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Grousbeck will step down from the governor position as part of the Celtics’ $6.1 billion sale to Bill Chisholm but is expected to retain his role as CEO.

Additionally, once the sale is finalized within the next week, Grousbeck will become an alternate governor.

When the sale was announced in March, it was initially stated that Grousbeck would remain governor and CEO through 2028.

However, the NBA Board of Governors was recently informed that Chisholm will now take over as governor moving forward.
