£30m Chelsea star must regret turning down Everton after Jack Grealish news - opinion

With Jack Grealish now an Everton player, there is one transfer target who surely must regret rejecting an Everton move.

The arrival of the Manchester City star must not be brushed under the carpet, as it’s an important signing for the Toffees.

It’s clear that The Friedkin Group haven’t really brought in that statement signing for David Moyes, but they now have him in the 29-year-old.

He’s obviously got to pick up his performances, as Grealish plans to bring a new Paul Gascoigne to Merseyside.

But with his loan deal confirmed, there was one player who could have had that statement signing himself at Everton, as he’s bound to be kicking himself now.

Liam Delap must surely regret rejecting Everton after Jack Grealish signing

A transfer that Moyes was very keen on securing this summer was former Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

The 22-year-old obviously confirmed a £30 million switch to Chelsea this summer, but the striker could have been the face of the Toffees’ new project.

Nevertheless, Delap joined Chelsea for trophies and didn’t fancy an underdog story under Moyes.

But surely there must be regret now, as along with Grealish joining, the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is also a factor, as not only do both players provide creativity for the striker, but he will also know Grealish well from their time at City.

The striker was no doubt told about the owners’ ambition after talks to bring in these types of players, as Delap could have the leading role at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, there is another element as to why his rejection was the wrong choice, and he could pay for it this season.

Matters worsen for Liam Delap who is now second choice after denying number nine role at Everton

Missing out on the rejuvenation of Grealish could be a big regret for Delap, but the other problem with his move to Chelsea will be his limited game time.

At Everton, there was a number nine role waiting for him, where he would have been the main man under Moyes.

Of course, Thierno Barry can now live up to this, but in the Chelsea striker’s case, he now has to compete with Joao Pedro.

Barry could even eclipse Delap, so it appears the Toffees are the true winners, as instead, his development could be tarnished at Chelsea.
