Liverpool are not targeting a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, it has been claimed. Arne Slot's side sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for £65.5million last month and speculation has increased that the Reds are looking to go out and sign another left-sided attacker.
Barcola, 22, started last season as firm fixture in the PSG starting XI, but his game time started to reduce when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia signed in a blockbuster deal from Napoli in January. Indeed, Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue were both preferred out wide for the Champions League final and that theme continued in the Club World Cup, with Barcola starting just TWO matches at the revamped FIFA tournament.
Talk has intensified about a move to Liverpool for Barcola, with the Reds long-term admirers of the France international. Barcola has been at PSG since August 2023 after starting his career at Lyon. During his time at the Parc des Princes, he has scored 26 times and provided 30 assists in 103 appearances.
However, according to The Athletic, senior Liverpool figures have dismissed reports that the Reds are eyeing a move for Barcola this summer. It's added that Slot's men believe bringing in a left-sided forward with his profile would block the pathway for teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha.
Ngumoha, 16, is now viewed as part of Slot's senior squad after an impressive pre-season. He scored twice and provided two assists in four matches during the club's preparations for the new campaign.
Elsewhere, Liverpool remain interested in a move for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, following Darwin Nunez's £46m departure to Al-Hilal on Saturday. The Reds made a first official bid - claimed to be worth £110million flat - for the Sweden international earlier this month, but the offer was rejected by Newcastle.
While the ECHO reported that Arne Slot's side have no plans to submit a second proposal - due to the nature of Newcastle's response to the first bid - a move could still happen this summer.
Isak, meanwhile, is adamant he will never represent Newcastle again, as he is said to be furious over a 'broken contract promise' that led him to decide that last season would be his final one at St James' Park.
Former Newcastle director and minority co-owner Amanda Staveley had promised Isak that he and the would sit down to discuss a new contract, which would have been deserved for his performances. But Staveley, who left the Magpies in July 2024, departed before both parties could negotiate fresh terms.
Paul Mitchell arrived as Newcastle's sporting director and changed tune on that promise, which angered Isak. Ex-Tottenham chief Mitchell cited the club's need to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Even if Newcastle refuse to cash-in and he remains at St James' Park when the transfer window closes, the striker believes that his career on Tyneside is finished and he does not want to be reintegrated into the squad.
