Aston Villa planning summer reunion with 29yo star despite interest from Turkey & Saudi Arabia

Aston Villa are exploring a move to bring Marco Asensio back to Villa Park, according to The Telegraph.

The Villans are still looking to bolster their attacking options and are weighing up the possibility of bringing back Asensio either on a permanent transfer or another loan deal.

Villa manager Unai Emery wants to reunite with the Spain international for a second straight season.

Asensio left a lasting impact in his first stint at Villa. After joining from Paris Saint-Germain on a short-term loan deal, he scored eight goals in 21 games for Emery’s side.

Emery is a long-term admirer of the 29-year-old Spanish forward. The Villa boss has had his eye on Asensio since taking charge at Villa in October 2022 and sees him as an ideal fit for his system.

His desire to work with the former Real Madrid star could push Villa to formalise their interest with an official proposal.

Asensio is entering into the final year of his contract with PSG. He’s not part of Luis Enrique’s long-term plans, so the French champions would love nothing more than to cut him loose this summer.

PSG would rather cash in now than let him walk on a free transfer next summer. They’d even be willing to let him go in a cut-price deal, with the Parisians keen to get him off their wage bill.

Asensio is already drawing interest from clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia. However, Villa believe that their relationship with the player could tip the scales in their favour.

Clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia would have no problems matching Asensio’s wage demands, but he’d need to take a pay cut to facilitate a return to Birmingham this summer.

Villa have hardly been active this summer. They’ve only added Evann Guessand to the squad and will need to move players on to create room for further additions.

Jacob Ramsey is one who could make way this summer. He has been linked with a move to West Ham United and Newcastle United.
