The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bounce back after a heartbreaking loss.
They were one victory away from winning the Super Bowl for the third time in as many years and becoming the first team in NFL history to achieve that.
Now, they’re back to being the hunters, not the hunted.
They’ve been in this position before, but that doesn’t mean their passion and fire have waned.
Asked about his goal for the upcoming season, Travis Kelce made it clear that he’s aiming for the big prize again.
“Win a Super Bowl is the only goal. It’s the only goal. It’s every goal,” Kelce said, via GQ. “I think it might have slipped a little bit because I did have a little bit more focus in trying to set myself up. And opportunities came up where I was excited to venture into a new world of acting and being an entertainer. I don’t say this as ‘I shouldn’t have done it.’ I’m just saying that my work ethic is such that I have so much pride in how I do things that I never want the product to tail off, and I feel like these past two years haven’t been to my standard. I just have such a motivation to show up this year for my guys.”
Kelce is one of the most decorated tight ends in history, and he’s likely going to be a Hall of Famer once his time comes.
Yet, he’s still as motivated as the first day he arrived at an NFL training camp.
The Chiefs couldn’t keep up with the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, and they didn’t look as dominant as in previous years throughout the course of the season.
Kelce seemed to have lost a step, and he failed to live up to his usual statistics.
But with retirement a realistic possibility after 13 seasons of playing at the highest level, he wants to make sure to leave the game on his terms and, more importantly, as the thing he’s always been: a winner.
