Arsenal 28yo considering running down his contract

Oleksandr Zinchenko is still considering seeing out his contract with Arsenal, despite the club making him available and rumours of interest from Fenerbahce.

James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that whilst Oleksandr Zinchenko is available to leave Arsenal before the summer transfer deadline, the defender is considering seeing out his contract and moving on a free transfer in 2026.

McNicholas adds that Arsenal would prefer a permanent transfer in the current window, if possible.

Zinchenko has been linked with Fenerbahce in recent days, with Turkish reporter Sercan Hamzaoglu claiming the club’s sporting director Devin Ozek had held a meeting in England with the player and Andrea Berta.

Ozek reportedly informed Zinchenko that Jose Mourinho is keen to sign him, with the intention to use him as a midfielder.

The journalist even went as far as claiming that Fenerbahce had submitted an official offer to Arsenal, though those claims haven’t been widely replicated in the English media since then.

Zinchenko made 23 appearances for Arsenal in 2024/25, scoring one goal and providing one assist. The 28-year-old was also involved in the Gunners’ pre-season tour, though he appears to be behind Myles Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori at left-back when the pair are both available.

It’s difficult to see Zinchenko playing a regular role for Arsenal in 2025/26, but if the right offers don’t arrive this summer he might opt to take the hit this year to give himself freedom of choice in 2026.
