Borussia Dortmund are once again linked with a move for Renato Veiga — the versatile Portuguese who nearly joined them last summer. Personal terms had been agreed, but the deal collapsed before completion. Instead, Veiga signed for Chelsea in a late twist, ending Dortmund’s hopes.
Now, with the summer window reaching its decisive stage, reports suggest BVB could revisit the idea of bringing him to Signal Iduna Park to strengthen squad depth. However, there are conflicting updates, with some sources insisting no active negotiations are taking place.
Dortmund Previous Pursuit and Chelsea’s Firm Stance
Dortmund were ahead last year when Veiga was at Basel. But talks hit a stalemate with his club, which gave Chelsea the opportunity to finalise the transfer in July 2024.
In Jan 2025, Borussia Dortmund came back with a loan deal with an option to buy and covering the wages fully. Chelsea, however, stood firm — they would only sanction a permanent sale worth over £20 million. Veiga himself preferred a short-term loan to gain minutes without ending his Stamford Bridge chapter, and the difference in stance halted progress.
Since then, Atletico Madrid also made a push, holding direct talks and weighing up a €40 million move. Veiga was open, but their pursuit ended when they signed David Hancko instead. Bayern Munich have also kept him on a shortlist as a possible centre-back addition, but nothing concrete has emerged.
🚨 Borussia Dortmund are once again considering Renato Veiga. They had already agreed to terms with him last summer. However, a transfer never materialized. Instead, he went to Chelsea.

Juventus Loan, Rising Competition and Chelsea’s Position
Out in January was next on the cards and Juventus came beckoning again, this time they signed Renato Veiga on loan until the end of the season. His displays in Turin only enhanced his standing, proving himself capable of performing brilliantly both in midfield and at centre-back.
Now, while Dortmund’s name remains in the headlines, Bayern and various Saudi Pro League clubs are also monitoring his situation. Chelsea are still open to selling despite Levi Colwill’s injury, and Veiga is keen on a fresh chapter. With less than three weeks left in the window, his future hangs in the balance — and a decisive move could come quickly.
