Bayern Munich will make Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku one of their key targets to replace Kingsley Coman, who is close to joining Al-Nassr. The Bundesliga champions are accelerating plans to strengthen their attack before the summer window shuts, though Nkunku isn’t their only option.
Coman departure clears the path
Kingsley Coman is one step away from joining Al-Nassr for €30-35M, with a contract until 2028 and net wages of around €20–25 million per year. But with him on his way out the door, Bayern will be light out wide up top and are turning their attention back to more familiar Bundesliga targets as sporting director Max Eberl changes tactics. Nkunku, admired since his prolific RB Leipzig spell, is high on the shortlist.
Bayern had explored other targets such as Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, but both proved too costly or unavailable. Bayern have set aside a specific budget for Werder Bremen’s Nick Woltemade, whose name is gaining traction. For now, Woltemade is slightly ahead in Bayern’s priority order, but if that pursuit stalls, Nkunku could swiftly become the number one target.
Chelsea’s stance and possible twists
Chelsea are willing to offload Nkunku, but only on a permanent basis meaning there is no possibility of a loan deal. The 26-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge in 2023 from RB Leipzig but has been hampered by injuries. Though he has shown quality here and there, under Enzo Maresca he is still to start a consistent line-up.
Reports suggest Nkunku could feature in a swap deal with RB Leipzig involving Xavi Simons. Chelsea are exploring the move, and Leipzig remain open to it. Nkunku appears receptive if the terms are right. Bayern Munich have not yet submitted an official bid, but a return to Germany remains possible. Such a move would bring back a proven Bundesliga performer to spearhead their post-Coman era.
