Reds perform U-turn on 'unstoppable' star while centre-back choices clear: Tuesday's Liverpool transfer round-up

Liverpool are gearing up for the new season and want a few more additions to help defend their title.

Arne Slot’s second season with the Reds comes with a lot more pressure attached compared to his first, especially due to the number of top signings he has added to his side.

The Dutchman will be hoping that Liverpool’s business is not finished yet either, and based on the transfer rumours circulating, they are far from finished.

Incomings are still expected and so too are outgoings, suggesting that August is going to be a very busy month indeed for the Reds. Here is what has been reported on Tuesday.

Liverpool now want to keep Federico Chiesa

At the start of the summer, all the chatter was that Federico Chiesa would be leaving the club, with the Italian, at one point, looking like he would be one of the first out the door.

However, this has not materialised for one reason or another, but mainly due to clubs being put off by his wage demands and injury record.

Now, Liverpool have held a meeting with Chiesa to try to tell him that he is needed at the club next season due to recent departures, with the winger now a key part of Slot’s plans.

Whether he chooses to stay is another matter, but the club clearly thinks that he is capable of having a real impact on their title defence.

A centre-back has gone from an option this summer to now essential after the Reds’ performances in pre-season, with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi top of their list.

Despite being older than the usual age profile of 18-22 that the Reds usually go for, Liverpool will make an exception for Guehi if it proves too good to turn down.

If they fail to sign him, however, Parma’s Giovanni Leoni is an alternative option, although there could be a situation where they sign both.

Either way, it shows good self-awareness from the club that reinforcements at the back are needed, but who comes in is yet to be decided.

Alexander Isak makes two controversial choices

Alexander Isak to Liverpool is still on the cards and Tuesday has seen this story gain a fair bit of traction, with the Swede, firstly, putting his house in Newcastle up for sale.

As well as moving out, Isak has told Newcastle that he will never play for the club again, even if he does not end up departing for whatever reason this summer.

The striker is also not giving up hope on a move to Anfield until Liverpool themselves have informed him that it is impossible to pull off, highlighting how this one is getting messier by the minute.

Elsewhere, Steve Nicol believes Wataru Endo has to start against Bournemouth on Friday, while Liverpool target Bradley Barcola is set to be offered a new contract at PSG.
