With the 2025 NFL season on the horizon, anticipation is high for the league’s biggest stars to take the field once again—and there may be no one more excited than former Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden.

Gruden last coached in the NFL in 2021 and has since become a prominent personality at Barstool Sports, staying well-informed on football at both the professional and collegiate levels.

In a recent interview with Peighton Tubre, Gruden answered a series of rapid-fire questions. When asked who the best current NFL quarterback is, he gave an instant and surprising response.

“Joe Burrow,” Gruden said, giving the honor to the Cincinnati Bengals star over names like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson.

Fans reacted to Gruden’s comments:

“As soon as he said Burrow I knew he was rage baiting,” a fan said.

Someone else added, “Joe burrow is not the best qb in the league or the planet.”

Another person wrote, “Joe Burrow. No.. He may be the smoothest but saying he better than Mahomes. Lamar. Allen (who I can’t stand) is absurd.

“he did not just say Joe Burrow,” one more fan commented.

While Joe Burrow is certainly considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Josh Allen is coming off an MVP season, Lamar Jackson is already a two-time MVP, and Patrick Mahomes is a two-time MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion.

Burrow, despite an historic season, has yet to win MVP but has led his team to the Super Bowl—a feat neither Allen nor Jackson have accomplished.

Last season, Burrow completed 70.6% of his passes for 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions. He led the entire NFL in both passing yards and passing touchdowns, yet the Bengals still missed the playoffs with a 9-8 record, largely due to a defense that allowed over 30 points per game.
