Report: Juventus agree to personal terms with Brighton’s Matt O’Riley

The thing about the last few weeks in Juventus land is that it has seen talk of incoming players to what feels like a virtual stop. The talk about Jadon Sancho has dried up almost completely. The talks with Paris Saint-Germain for Randal Kolo Muani are understandably stuck because both clubs want the deal to be a certain yet different formula. The necessary exits to generate some sort of income haven’t happened yet — which, for what day in August it currently is, is not exactly a great sign.

However, a portion of that inactivity could actually be changing.

No, seriously. It might actually be changing.

[According to Tuttosport earlier this week](https://www.tuttosport.com/news/calcio/serie-a/juventus/2025/08/11-142475607/oriley_dice_s_alla_juve_il_mercato_si_stappa_dentro_uno_fuori_due), Juventus have agreed to personal terms on a long-term contract with Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Matt O’Riley, with the report adding that the two clubs are indeed starting talks over a potential move for the Danish international. O’Riley, who has been linked with multiple Serie A clubs in the past and only joined Brighton last summer after a big-money move from Celtic, is being looked at as a potential replacement whenever Douglas Luiz does get his desired move away from Turin this summer before the end of the current transfer window. The contract with the 24-year-old O’Riley is reportedly a five-year deal worth €3 million per season.

Brighton reportedly want _at least_ what they paid for O’Riley last summer, which is around €30 million.

There is no word as to just how advanced — if at all — talks between Juventus and Brighton may be at this stage of the game. As we are unofficially required to say every time a story like this comes out, agreeing to personal terms is almost always the easier of the two things to figure out, thus the reason it is usually first in the negotiating process to be completed. So if Juve have in fact agreed to personal terms with O’Riley — which, based on Tuttosport’s history of things, isn’t always the most reliable — then the easier part of the equation is out of the way.

Tuttosport is quick to note that O’Riley has been on Juventus’ radar for the last couple of years, which makes sense considering that he was a reported target of Cristiano Giuntoli before the now-former Juve director went all in on the Teun Koopmeiners acquisition. There’s also a connective thread there considering O’Riley was also mentioned as a potential replacement for Koopmeiners at Atalanta before La Dea eventually signed Lazar Samardzic from Udinese to fill the void left by the Dutchman’s arrival in Turin.

O’Riley has also been linked to Roma over the last year and change.

But with there being question marks around midfielders like Douglas Luiz, Fabio Miretti and maybe even Weston McKennie as we head into the last couple of weeks of the summer mercato, O’Riley looks to be the name that Juve general manager Damien Comolli could be putting on ice for when the Bianconeri need a new midfielder.

When that will be is anybody’s guess considering how slow the current market is going — especially when it comes to Douglas Luiz even though it’s pretty much just assumed at this point that he’s leaving. But O’Riley is, at least according to Tuttosport, probably going to be the first name that Juve try and bring in if a midfielder does leave over the next week or two.
