Forest’s B Team suffered defeat to Boreham Wood in their National League Cup group stage opener on Tuesday night.
Warren Joyce’s side kicked off their 2025/26 campaign against the Hertfordshire outfit, but two second-half goals condemned Forest to a narrow defeat on the night.
The Reds nearly took the lead inside the first minute when Jimmy Sinclair’s run and cross from the right was swept just wide by Lamin Sillah from close-range.
Forest continued to apply pressure in the opening stages though, with a quick break releasing Jamie Newton who found Adam Berry in space 20 yards from goal. The midfielder showed good footwork to wriggle away from a challenge, before seeing a dipping effort well tipped over by Nathan Ashmore.
Berry continued to be a nuisance for the Wood defence, firing a ferocious effort wide of the far post as Forest pushed for an opener just before the hour mark.
Second half substitute Fuad Smith then teased his way in-field before curling an effort just wide of the upright as Joyce’s young Reds upped the ante at Meadow Park.
But it was the hosts who broke the deadlock on 65 minutes when a corner fell for Charles Clayden, who fired beyond Luke Campbell to give Wood the lead.
Forest looked to respond immediately, but as they pushed for a late leveller, Luke Garrard’s side doubled their lead on 80 minutes when Matt Rush converted Cameron Coxe’s cross for 2-0.
Rush nearly added a second goal for himself and a third for Wood inside stoppage time, but the forward couldn’t quite divert his header on target.
