A Manchester United first-team player under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford has now received the ultimate compliment from one of his former club teammates.

Ruben Amorim oversaw the Red Devils’ final pre-season match on Saturday, with Manchester United defeating Serie A side Fiorentina at Old Trafford on penalties.

Following United’s 5-4 penalty shootout win over Fiorentina, the Red Devils have returned to training under Amorim ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

United begin the 2025-26 Premier League campaign at Old Trafford on Sunday, with the Red Devils facing a tough opening test to the new season against Arsenal.

Amorim has been able to improve his United first-team squad and welcomed the new arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Diego Leon and Matheus Cunha.

However, the 40-year-old United manager is still waiting for the Red Devils to offload talent surplus to requirements, including Jadon Sancho and Antony.

Angel Ortiz paints a picture of Antony’s spell at Real Betis amid the wantaway Man Utd winger’s uncertain future

Antony returned to Old Trafford in July and the 25-year-old Manchester United winger is pushing for a move away from the Premier League club this summer.

The ex-Ajax star was loaned to Real Betis during the 2024-25 campaign and Antony impressed during his spell at the La Liga club after rediscovering his best form.

Antony, who is under contract with United until 2027, netted nine times and registered five assists in 26 matches for Real Betis across all competitions.

Betis agreed to loan Antony from United in January, but the Brazil international has fallen down the pecking order under Amorim and the club are open to selling him.

Angel Ortiz has come through the Betis youth academy and the 21-year-old Spaniard revealed the impact that Antony had on him during the United winger’s loan spell.

Speaking to Estadio (via Goal), he said: “I think playing with Antony or someone of his level was incredible for me.

“I think he made things much easier, and in the end, I just had to give it to him and run up the field because he did the rest.”

However, United are keen to sanction a sale of Antony this summer and the Red Devils are holding out for a fee between £20m to £30m for the Betis-linked player.

Angel Ortiz made his feelings perfectly clear that he is hopeful that his current side can sign Antony from United after the Brazilian attacker’s loan spell in Spain.

“The truth is, playing with him again would be incredible,” he added.

Betis are not the only club linked with Antony this summer and the United winger has attracted interest from the likes of Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.
