Man United table £69 million offer for Barcelona midfielder

Manchester United host Arsenal in the pick of the games on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

Ruben Amorim’s side welcome the Gunners to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, with plenty at stake for both sides.

While Arsenal have finished second in the top flight in each of the past three campaigns, the Reds Devils finished 15th last term after a disastrous season.

With that in mind, Amorim is under significant pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around, and he will hope to see an impressive performance against Arsenal in their season opener.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the Manchester outfit have tabled a huge offer for a La Liga star.

As reported by Spanish outlet Fichajes via CaughtOffside, United have made a bid in the region of £69 million for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, 22.

The report suggests that the Spaniard is intrigued by the idea of a move to Old Trafford, meaning the deal could be completed before the end of the transfer window.

Lopez has played more than 80 times for Barcelona since graduating through the club’s fruitful youth system.

In that time he has scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists, and he has therefore been identified as a candidate to bolster Amorim’s options in midfield.

Last term the midfielder started just 12 of Barcelona’s 38 La Liga games as Hansi Flick’s side won the top flight title, and it appears that he could be considering a move away from the club.

Barcelona have experienced quite sever financial issues in recent years, although it remains to be seen whether or not the La Liga champions will accept United’s offer for Lopez.

The Spain international is contracted to Barcelona until the end of the 2028/29 season, but it is unclear where he will play next term.
