Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are not ready to sanction the departure of their Brazilian shot-stopper Ederson.
Ederson has been linked with a move away from Manchester City since the start of the summer, with the arrival of James Trafford from Burnley adding fuel to the fire. However, according to a report from Football Insider, Pep Guardiola’s side have decided to keep the Brazilian goalkeeper at the club beyond the transfer window.
Ederson made a name for himself while playing for Benfica, and on the back of his impressive rise, City secured his services back in 2017. He has been an undisputed starter for them under Guardiola.
While the Manchester-based giants were not at their best last season, the 31-year-old still managed to keep 13 clean sheets in his 40 outings. He still has a year left on his deal, but his future has been a massive talking point since the start of the summer.
The Brazilian international has been linked with a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray as well as a potential switch to the Middle East. Meanwhile, City acquired the services of James Trafford from Burnley. People at the club were quite impressed with his performances in the Championship, and they decided to trigger the buy-back clause to re-sign him.
Ederson to continue at Manchester City
Following his return to the club, reports suggested Trafford would be the number one going forward as he wouldn’t want to be a cover for Ederson at this stage of his career. However, the report from Football Insider states that the Brazilian international will continue to be the first-choice in goal next season.
City have finally made a decision on his future. They have no intention to negotiate his departure and want to keep him at the club beyond this summer. Guardiola is keen on having both Ederson and Trafford in his squad. While the former Benfica star will start the season at the number one, the duo are set to compete for a place in the starting XI.
Ederson seems to be keen on trying a new challenge, but he won’t mind staying at City as long as he remains the number one choice in goal. With his contract running out next summer, he will be free to choose his next club.
