Michael Porter Jr. drops shocking statement on sports betting

Michael Porter Jr. says NBA players can easily be tempted by sports betting, especially if they come from tough upbringings.

One of the Brooklyn Nets’ newest additions, Michael Porter Jr., recently opened up about one of the NBA’s hottest topics right now: sports betting.

He made a striking statement about the temptation players face, especially those who come from humble beginnings, when it comes to the potential money they could make through betting.

“Think about if you can get all your homies rich by telling them, ‘yo bet $10,000 on my under this 1 game, I’m gonna act like I got an injury…’ and they all get a little bag… Some people come from nothing," Porter said on his appearance One Night with Steiny podcast.

On his earlier Curious Mike podcast, Porter also opened up about his brother Jontay Porter’s struggle with gambling addiction, as well as his own challenges with women.

"Everybody has different weaknesses. Everybody struggles with different things. It might be people who deal with alcohol, with drugs."

"For example, my brother had problems with gambling. My weakness has always come in the form of women. And when I'm away from God, when I'm not reading his word, not praying, not prioritizing him, that's where the devil seems to catch me: in the realm of women," he said.

Michael's brother Jontay Porter was infamously banned from the NBA last year due to his involvement in prop betting and now faces the possibility of a lengthy jail sentence.
