Jacob Ramsey is closing in on a move to Newcastle United from Aston Villa

Newcastle United are making progress in their attempt to sign Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa.
The proposed package is reportedly worth £40 million, which would count as pure profit for Villa and help improve their position with regard to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Ramsey came through the Villa academy and has made 167 appearances for the club in all competitions since his debut in February 2019.
He featured 45 times in all competitions last season, including 29 appearances in the Premier League.
However, in 2023/24 he started only eight games, enduring a torrid spell with injuries that began in the summer of 2023 while on international duty with England U21s.
Villa’s transfer activity has been limited this summer due to the financial rules, with only two first-team signings so far: Marco Bizot, brought in as back-up to Robin Olsen, and Evann Guessand, who joined last week in a deal worth roughly £30 million.
