Aaron Rodgers avoids major injury after scare at Steelers training camp

LATROBE, Pa. --Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers avoided any significant injury after being stepped on during Tuesday’s practice.

Rodgers was stepped on by his own offensive lineman after rookie defensive tackle Derrick Harmon bull rushed Spencer Anderson back into Rodgers.

As a result, Rodgers was cleated and had a cut on his right shin. Rodgers and the trainer massaged his shin and calf area between team periods, and he put a large wrap of ice around it.

However, Tomlin said the injury was nothing of significance and Rodgers returned during the next team period. As a result, there is no concern for the four-time MVP moving forward.

“It’s nothing of significance‚" Tomlin said after practice. “He didn’t miss a rep.”

The Steelers lost quarterback Russell Wilson last season during training camp to a calf issue that festered throughout the year and forced him to miss the first six games of the season.

Rodgers torn his right achilles in the 2023 season, and the cut formed on the same side, leading to some concern. Before he tore his Achilles, Rodgers strained his calf in training camp that year.

The 41-year-old quarterback has taken extra precautions to staying healthy over the last year, and two years out from his surgery, feels better than ever.
