Training Camp Notebook 8/12: Devin White, Raiders defense win the day

Read through for notes, quotes and observations from Tuesday's practice.

Safety Jeremy Chinn brought the physicality to practice, making many defensive stops when stepping up in the box. The offense started team period focusing on running the ball, and Chinn and the rest of the front seven seemingly snuffed out each handoff with ease.

"A lot of people off the bat, they would think he's more quiet and reserved and he is," Chris Smith II said of Chinn, "but when it's time to talk and time to lead, he definitely doesn't miss an opportunity to get his point across, help guys out where he sees fit, and then he goes out there and he does it himself."

Linebacker Devin White came away with two interceptions. The first in team period as Maxx Crosby pressured Smith into making an errant throw and the second in 7-on-7 drills as a pass was tipped up in the air. Like a centerfielder in baseball, White tracked the ball and reeled in the catch.

A third interception for the Raiders defense came from Kyu Blu Kelly. In 7-on-7 drills, he jumped a route near the sideline. It's also worth mentioning he was sprinkled in with the first-team for a handful of reps.

"Pretty sure he ran like a post corner. I was on top, and I was able to key through him to the quarterback," Kelly said post-practice on his interception. "And then once I saw it come out, it was just a fight for the ball, and at that point just make the play."

You're never going to be on your high horse forever. Eventually, you got to just get it out the mud. You got to be a dog in the corner and fight your way out of it.
