Seattle Seahawks: Late-Round Steal Soaring on the Depth Chart

The Seattle Seahawks enter the fourth week of training camp with two of their three starting wide receiver positions filled in. Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp are expected to lead the unit and finish 2025 as the top two receivers. Meanwhile, the Seahawks will have a competition between two players for the number three receiver position, including a rookie to replace Tyler Lockett.

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Tory Horton 166th overall in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. After spending the first two years of college at Nevada, he transferred to Colorado State for the 2022 season. Horton had a strong three-year tenure with the Rams, hauling in 193 receptions for 2,620 yards and 17 touchdowns across 30 games, earning a First-Team All-Mountain West selection in 2022 and 2023. He battled a knee injury in 2024, causing him to miss six regular-season games and limiting him to 26 receptions for 353 yards and one touchdown.

The knee injury caused him to slide in the draft. Horton will compete against Marquez Valdes-Scantling for the WR3 role for the rest of the summer.

Tory Horton has impressed during training camp and recently began receiving first-team reps with the starting offense. The late-round steal capped it off with an impressive preseason debut, leading the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, with three receptions for 31 yards and one touchdown. On Tuesday, ESPN updated the Seahawks’ depth chart and listed Horton as the starter over Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Tory Horton had a good preseason debut: 3 catches, 31 yards, 1 TD.

“I feel like I’ve been seeing the rookie show up a lot lately,” Shaquill Griffin said, via Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. “There’s a lot of plays where you don’t see a lot of rookies move the way he moves, make the plays he makes. It just shows the type of room that we have back there to get a chance to have the rookie being on the same level as some of these older guys.”
