"Someone has decided" - Donnarumma breaks silence on PSG future amid Man City links

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has penned a farewell message after being axed by head coach Luis Enrique.

Donnarumma played a key role in PSG's recent treble-winning campaign, recording 17 clean sheets in 47 appearances in all competitions.

However, Donnarumma has now been deemed surplus to requirements following the recent arrival of Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

Enrique has omitted Donnarumma from his squad for Wednesday's UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur in Italy.

Speaking ahead of the game, Enrique has confirmed that it was "100%" his decision to axe Donnarumma from the squad, paving the way for the Italian to be sold this summer.

Donnarumma confirms PSG departure

“Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, no doubt, and even better as a person," Enrique said.

"But this is the life of high-level footballers. I am 100 per cent responsible for this difficult decision. If it were easy, anyone would do it; these decisions have to do with the profile of the goalkeeper that my team needs."

Donnarumma has since confirmed his expected PSG departure on social media, stating that "someone has decided" that his future lies elsehwere.

In a post on Instagram, Donnarumma wrote: "From the first day I arrived, I gave everything - on and off the pitch - to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain.

"Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team's success. I am disappointed and disheartened.

"I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done. If that doesn't happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it.

"I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and of you, who made me feel at home. To my teammates - my second family - thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers.

"Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour. Thank you, Paris."

Man City eyeing axed PSG goalkeeper

With PSG looking to offload Donnarumma, Manchester City have emerged as one of the leading contenders for his signature.

The Citizens have already signed James Trafford this summer, but they could pursue a **move for Donnarumma if Ederson**leaves before the end of the transfer window.

Man City have received formal contact from Turkish giants Galatasaray over a potential transfer for Ederson.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked with Donnarumma, who has entered the final 12 months of his PSG contract.
