Dani Olmo Returns to Training as Barcelona Prepare for Mallorca Opener

FC Barcelona resumed work on Tuesday morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, turning full attention to Saturday’s La Liga debut against RCD Mallorca at Son Moix. The main talking point was the return of Dani Olmo, who rejoined full training after missing the previous sessions and the Trofeu Joan Gamper match due to muscle overload.

Recovered and moving at the same pace as his teammates, the Terrassa-born midfielder even finished on the winning side during the day’s training games, a positive sign for his availability. However, despite being part of Hansi Flick’s preferred “gala XI,” Olmo is expected to start on the bench. The plan is for Fermín López, fresh from scoring twice in Sunday’s 5–0 pre-season victory over Como, to lead the attack alongside Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres.

Robert Lewandowski did not take part in Tuesday’s session. The Polish striker is still dealing with discomfort in the biceps femoris of his left thigh, making his participation this weekend doubtful.

Frenkie de Jong and Pedri are set to partner in midfield, while Ronald Araújo is expected to slot in next to Pau Cubarsí at centre-back, replacing the departed Iñigo Martínez. Alejandro Balde should feature at left-back, with either Jules Koundé or Eric García on the right. Joan García is in line to start in goal, provided his registration is completed before matchday.

Flick also included young players Toni Fernández, Guille Fernández, Dro Fernández and Jofre Torrents in training. All four could be in the travelling squad, depending on whether the club finalizes the registrations of Joan García, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji, and completes the renewals of Wojciech Szczęsny and Gerard Martín.

Barcelona will train again on Wednesday morning at 09:30 as they refine their plan for Mallorca. For Fermín, the match offers a chance to strengthen his claim to a starting role, knowing that Olmo and Gavi will be direct competition for the advanced midfield position this season.
