East High alum shines in NFL preseason debut

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A former Anchorage football player made his NFL debut on Saturday in a preseason game with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School alumnus Aiden Williams played 54 snaps at the right guard position on the offensive line, as the Steelers defeated the Jaguars 31-25.

Williams was tied for the most accumulated snaps by any Steeler, and was graded the team’s best in pass and run blocking by Pro Football Focus (PFF) standards.

William’s father, Travis Williams, said he watched the game with pride and great anticipation for the beginning of his son’s journey at the professional level.

“It’s a high-caliber game and there’s high-caliber players there,” his father said. “For [Aiden] to be involved with that and to play amongst those legends, I should say, is super exciting.

“And he’s just consuming it. He’s just digging into it.”

Williams was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent on April 26. The Steelers are currently finalizing their roster, which must be down to 53 players by Aug. 26.

Should Williams make the final roster, he could end up playing alongside NFL icons such as Aaron Rodgers and TJ Watt.

“We’re hoping his journey with the Steelers continues,” Aiden’s dad said.

“Seeing him in the past year grow to the person that he is and his skills and his abilities and his training and everything, just to get to that level and being able to be on that stage, any proud dad would be super excited about that.”
