The Seattle Seahawks had a middle-of-the-pack offensive unit in 2024. They ranked 18th in scoring offense, 14th in total yards, eighth in passing yards, 20th in passing touchdowns, 28th in rushing yards, and 11th in rushing touchdowns. Despite finishing 10-7, they failed to reach the postseason.
The franchise has since made major changes to the offense -- particularly the passing game -- as they released wide receiver Tyler Lockett and traded quarterback Geno Smith and wide receiver DK Metcalf. Seattle signed Sam Darnold to take over under center, while adding Cooper Kupp to line up opposite Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
They also used three of their first four picks in the 2025 NFL Draft -- all of which landed in the first 92 selections -- on the offensive side of the ball. Seattle's success could, ultimately, depend on whether or not Darnold proves the front office correct in their decision to bring him in to replace Smith.
A recent report suggested that general manager John Schneider could target six-time All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill to provide their new quarterback with another dynamic weapon.
Seattle Seahawks linked to Dolphins star WR Tyreek Hill
Hill has been among the best wide receivers in the NFL since debuting back in 2016. The veteran wide receiver has earned All-Pro honors six times and reached the Pro Bowl eight times. In fact, 2024 marked the first time he failed to reach the Pro Bowl; however, he did record 959 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 81 receptions.
Amid rumors that his tenure with the Miami Dolphins could be coming to an end, Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report suggested that the Seahawks could be a potential trade partner. He revealed that a deal could include defensive back Coby Bryant and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft before adding:
"The Seahawks can improve their big-play ability with Hill in the fold. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak also came from the Shanahan tree, just a different branch than McDaniel's. Still, he can see how the Dolphins have deployed Hill and incorporate those wrinkles into Seattle's offense. Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Kupp are both outstanding, high-volume targets. Hill is a superior outside receiver, who provides a much-needed extra threat considering Kupp has missed at least five games in each of the last three seasons. If the Seahawks want the version of Darnold that showed up last season for the Minnesota Vikings, he needs premium weapons in the lineup."
A trio of Hill, Smith-Njigba, and Kupp would certainly give the Seahawks one of the best wide receiver rooms in the entire NFL. While none of the players are quite at the level of Justin Jefferson -- Darnold's top target from his career-year in 2024 -- the group would have plenty of talent to take the pressure off of Seattle's big-money free agent signing.
Additionally, Sobleski mentioned the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers as a potential landing spot for the Dolphins star. The opportunity to land a player like Hill, while keeping him away from a divisional rival, could be too good to pass up.
Although Bryant did appear in just under 70 percent of the Seahawks' defensive snaps last season, he is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Furthermore, he is likely expendable after Seattle drafted Nick Emmanwori 35th overall.
The Seahawks' secondary already features Pro Bowlers Riq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon, and Julian Love. Meanwhile, Shaquill Griffin returned to the franchise this offseason, leaving Seattle with plenty of talent to absorb the potential loss of Bryant.
