Arsenal and Tottenham are both jostling to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
The England international is hot property despite his £68m release clause expiring earlier in August.
TBR Football understand Tottenham have rekindled their interest in signing Eze as talks are also held to buy Savinho from Manchester City – while Arsenal remain keen, but are looking to offload some players first.
However, Liverpool have just made a move for the attacker’s Crystal Palace teammate Marc Guehi – in a swoop that could cause complications for the Gunners and Spurs.
Crystal Palace will have less of a need for cash once £35m Marc Guehi sale materialises
Liverpool are in discussions to sign the Crystal Palace captain in a deal worth around £35m – according to Paul Joyce of The Times.
Crystal Palace were not in desperate need of cash beforehand – despite Steve Parish recognising the financial sense in selling Guehi before he leaves for free – so there is now less need for the south Londoners to cash in on Eze.
Crucially – as aforesaid – the Crystal Palace No.10 also no longer has a £68m release clause in his contract after it expired, meaning the Eagles can stand firm on a very high fee if they opt to do so.
How much Crystal Palace received for winning the FA Community Shield
Crystal Palace are set to bank £35m for Guehi – although 20% (£7m) must go to Chelsea – but there was no extra cash after beating Liverpool in the FA Community Shield on Sunday.
The Express state that all funds raised from the traditional curtain raiser go towards charities and back into the football ladder – which is understandable when you consider the game used to be called the FA Charity Shield.
Nevertheless, it was special for Crystal Palace to reign supreme over both Manchester City and Liverpool at Wembley in the space of a few months, and also a remarkable way for Guehi to bow out – should his move to Anfield materialise as expected.
