While McGinn has firmly established himself as a fundamental figure at the club both on and off the pitch having amassed 285 appearances since he arrived in 2018 and continues to lead as captain, Tielemans was a class above last season and emerged as one of our most consistent and highest-performing players.

In turn, it makes perfect sense for Villa to want to agree new contracts with the midfield pair to extend their stay at the club, and with their influence, quality, leadership and experience, it’s certainly hoped that deals are announced sooner rather than later.
According to [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2025/08/12/aston-villa-in-talks-to-re-sign-marco-asensio/), both Tielemans and McGinn are in line for new contract offers, with Villa eager to continue to secure the futures of key individuals in the current squad. Both players currently have two years left on their remaining deals.
Albeit it has been a quiet summer transfer window in terms of incomings with Marco Bizot and Evann Guessand our only notable new arrivals, we have already seen Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and Lucas Digne put pen to paper on new deals, and there has been talk of others being offered new terms too.
With that in mind, Villa do appear to try to be consolidating what we have and keeping that important foundation in place, and time will tell if there is further movement both in terms of new signings and outgoings in the latter stages of the transfer window to continue to strengthen around them.
Tielemans will undoubtedly remain a pillar of the starting XI in his partnership with Kamara in our deeper midfield pivot, while McGinn’s versatility will allow him to play right across the midfield where needed by Unai Emery, and with Villa looking to compete on multiple fronts once again this year, both will be critical to our hopes of success.
