The wait is almost over, and Leeds United are gearing up for their return to Premier League football this weekend.
After clinching top spot in the Championship last season with an impressive 100-point haul, Daniel Farke’s side are primed for a fresh challenge in the English top flight. It’s been a busy summer in terms of incomings, with Anton Stach, Sean Longstaff, and Lukas Nmecha among the notable arrivals.
Still, with Leeds set to kick off their season against Everton on Monday night, there are just under three weeks remaining in the transfer window, meaning there’s still plenty of work to do to ensure the squad is equipped to maintain their top-flight status.
Here, Leeds Live takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumours from in and around Elland Road.
Leeds learn asking price for Juventus winger
Leeds continue to be linked with Juventus winger Nico Gonzalez, as the Serie A giants look to raise funds for a potential move for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho. The 27-year-old still has four years remaining on his contract, having completed a permanent move earlier this summer following a loan spell from Fiorentina.
According to Italian outlet TuttoSport, Juventus will demand around £26 million for Gonzalez, which is slightly more than the reported £21 million they paid to Fiorentina. It’s also claimed the player is aware of Juve’s interest in Sancho and is now seeking an exit before the transfer window closes.
Leeds Live has previously reported that the club have been alerted to Gonzalez’s availability but are currently assessing a number of winger options.
Leeds Live says: Gonzalez could certainly be considered a market opportunity and represents fair value if Juve’s asking price is only marginally above what they paid. That said, Leeds appear to be weighing up younger alternatives, such as Liverpool’s Ben Doak, rather than committing to a 27-year-old.
Discussions 'held' for Rodrigo Muniz alternative
Elsewhere, Leeds remain in the market for a striker. Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz has been a key target throughout the summer, although Serie A side Atalanta have now reportedly joined the race, potentially complicating matters.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Leeds are still hopeful of signing Muniz, who remains their top choice for the position. However, he notes that free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin has also been discussed as a possible alternative, should a deal for Muniz fail to come to fruition.
Calvert-Lewin spent eight years at Everton, scoring 71 goals in 273 appearances across all competitions. He is now a free agent and is yet to decide on his next move.
Leeds Live says: It’s clear Muniz is the first-choice target, but growing interest from Atalanta, combined with reports of Newcastle also monitoring the situation, make this a tricky deal to get done. Leeds face a race against time, but until a move is finalised, it’s still all to play for. Calvert-Lewin, while a different profile, would be a strong alternative given his Premier League pedigree and experience.
