Manchester United have been linked to signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
United and Chelsea had both been credited with interest from the Premier League, but it is not yet clear if either are going to make a concrete offer for the Italian international. But the Blues have handed United a serious boost if the Red Devils want to sign him.
Romano says Donnarumma is not a Chelsea target
Amid the widespread speculation of Donnarumma’s future, United are keeping tabs on his situation, as they would like to upgrade at the goalkeeper position if a feasible deal materialises. However, it was believed that they had competition from Chelsea, but that is no longer the case.
Fabrizio Romano posted on X: “Chelsea are not in active talks to sign Gigio Donnarumma despite links. He’s not a target as Chelsea are happy with their goalkeepers.”
It seems as though the Blues intend to continue into the new season with Robert Sanchez, despite reports suggesting they want to replace him.

This means that United have a clear path to go after Donnarumma if they decide to; Romano has previously said that a United move mostly depends on whether they choose to go with him, or a cheaper, and younger alternative keeper instead.
Who could United pick over Donnarumma?
It is fair to say that Donnarumma is one of the best keepers in the world, but there is a genuine chance that Man United could pass up the chance to buy him, by signing a younger, and cheaper alternative instead.
Royal Antwerp stopper Sanne Lammens has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, with reports suggesting that United would like to sign the 23-year-old to compete with Onana for the starting role in Amorim’s XI.
However, it is understood that Lammens would only leave Antwerp for a bigger club, if he was guaranteed to be the first-choice, as his current priority is getting as much game time as possible. Lammens’ contract at Antwerp expires in 2027, so the Belgian side be more likely to sell him next summer, when he has just one year left on his deal.
Man United could tempt the 23-year-old with a move to a big European club though, and likely with a significantly higher wage bill to his current contract. As Romano has said, United’s goalkeeper situation simply depends on which direction the Red Devils decide to go.
