One final twist in James Trafford to Newcastle United saga after Man City bombshell

Manchester City are now linked with a move for Italian great Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Former Newcastle United target James Trafford could find himself in Manchester City limbo yet again as Pep Guardiola reportedly eyes Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It is no secret that the Magpies shortlisted Trafford as their No.1 goalkeeper target this summer. Newcastle failed to land the City shot-stopper a year ago due to PSR constraints.

Toon chiefs were close to agreeing a deal last month until Etihad chiefs activated a buy-back option at the last minute. Any hopes of becoming the first-choice keeper at Man City - who still have long-serving star Ederson on their books - have now taken a monumental hit.

Fabrizio Romano on James Trafford

Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed City are in contact about a possible deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain great Donnarumma. He posted on social media: “Manchester City made contact with PSG to ask for Donnarumma deal conditions.

“Current PSG request around €50million, deemed too high plus deal would only be possible if Ederson leaves. Chelsea are not in the race. Gianluigi will soon clarify his position - info follows.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma message

Donnarumma addressed PSG fans last night confirming he will leave the club, largely due to manager Luis Enrique not seeing him as part of his plans. He said: “To the special Paris fans, from the first day I arrived, I gave everything - on and off the pitch - to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain.

“Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened. I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done.

“If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it. I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and of you, who made me feel at home.

“To my teammates - my second family - thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers. Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour. Thank you, Paris.”

‘Place I call home’ - James Trafford

In his first words after becoming a City player for the second time, Trafford called the club his home and highlighted Guardiola’s ability as a coach. He said: "This is the place I call home.

“It's a truly special football club with fantastic people who make it such a unique place to work and play. I am also very excited and honoured to have been given the opportunity to work under Pep and with such a world-class group of players.

"I am still very young and hungry to keep learning and improving - and I know there is no better environment than Manchester City to help make me become the best goalkeeper I can be.

"I also cannot wait to play in front of the amazing City fans for the first time and will do everything I can to help this great club look to achieve even more success.”
