Intermediaries have reportedly offered Manchester United the chance to sign 26-year-old French international Dayot Upamecano from Bayern Munich this summer.
According to an update by reputed German journalist Christian Falk, Dayot Upamecano is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Intermediaries have offered the struggling Premier League giants the opportunity to sign the 26-year-old Bayern Munich centre-back in the summer transfer window.
A report by CF Bayern Insider has shed more light on the story, suggesting the Frenchman has been on Manchester United’s wishlist for a long time. Manchester United “have included the 26-year-old on their list of priorities” amid his expiring contract. While Bayern Munich will attempt to tie Upamecano to a new deal, Manchester United’s interest is making life “difficult” for Die Roten.
Dayot Upamecano and his rise
Dayot Upamecano has been one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga for over half a decade. The 26-year-old rose in prominence during his spell with RB Leipzig, compelling European bigwigs to chase his signature before Bayern Munich won the battle for his signature in July 2021.
The French international has turned out over 150 times thus far for Bayern Munich while chipping in with five goals and ten assists. However, Upamecano faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena after entering the final 12 months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League adventure beckons?
Dayot Upamecano has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. While intermediaries have offered the Premier League club the opportunity to sign the former RB Leipzig defender this summer, the Red Devils remain interested and have him “on their list of priorities” for the ongoing transfer window.
Manchester United’s continued interest is somewhat perplexing. However, with Harry Maguire on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career, the struggling English giants must plan for life after the resurgent English centre-back. Several candidates, including Marc Guehi, are on Manchester United’s radar, with Upamecano also a viable target.
While Bayern Munich will aim to tie the 26-year-old Frenchman to a new contract, the talks have not progressed much due to Manchester United’s involvement in the matter. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Upamecano.
