Report: Christopher Nkunku’s potential move to Bayern Munich remains possible until deadline day

Bayern Munich’s reported interest in Chelsea FC’s Christopher Nkunku stretches back for many years, but it seemed to become very solid back in January of 2025. Ultimately, nothing happened but long term interest remains. And so, Bayern wait. In fact, according Florian Plettenberg, the club might wait until the Bundesliga transfer deadline day of September 1st:

Understand that a deal for Christopher Nkunku and FC Bayern until Deadline Day is possible, as revealed on our show yesterday. Much now depends on whether Bayern re-enter the race for Nick Woltemade.

Nkunku is keen to join Bayern, but has many suitors. There was already a verbal agreement with Bayern in January. Something Eberl loves: he can play as a No 9, No 10, and on the wing. RB Leipzig open for a loan. Chelsea/Nkunku want a permanent deal.

BFW Analysis

Generally, the waiting game is played by the team with the greater negotiating power. And, though Bayern’s depth has been shredded to pieces, Chelsea’s desperation to offload the Frenchman is clear and even greater. The longer the Bavarians wait, the greater the chances are Chelsea will lower their demands.

But that is also not a given. January’s transfer deadline day came and went without Chelsea letting up. If Nkunku would be set to play an important role in the squad, this could be a dangerous game for Bayern.
