Kyshawn George headlines Canada’s Basketball AmeriCup team

Kyshawn George and Leonard Miller headline Canada’s 14-man AmeriCup training roster, joined by veterans Trae Bell-Haynes and Kyle Wiltjer. The team, led by interim coach Nathaniel Mitchell, faces Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Panama in Nicaragua from August 22–31.

Canada Basketball has named a 14-man training camp roster for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025, and it’s led by a pair of promising NBA talents — Washington Wizards forwardKyshawn George and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Leonard Miller.

Kyshawn George: From Switzerland to Canada

At 21 years old,Kyshawn George is fresh off a strong rookie campaign with Washington, averaging 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 68 games after being drafted 24th overall out of the University of Miami.

Born inAigle, Switzerland to a Canadian father, George grew up moving between France and Switzerland before playing college ball in the U.S. His father, Deon George, hails from Montreal and played professionally in the Swiss league, paving the way for his son’s global basketball journey.

Most of George’s extended family lives in Montreal, with one uncle in Toronto who watched him play in person.

George has previously suited up for Switzerland’s U16 national team, but chose toplay for Canada.

Leonard Miller: Scarborough’s versatile forward

Also 21, Leonard Miller brings length, athleticism, and scoring versatility. The Scarborough, Ont. native played in 13 games for Minnesota last season after being selected 33rd overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. His development trajectory makes him a strong candidate for a bigger role in Canada’s senior setup.

Joining the young NBA duo are national team veterans Trae Bell-Haynes, a bronze medalist at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, and sharpshooter Kyle Wiltjer. Former Toronto Raptors assistant Nathaniel Mitchell will lead Canada at the AmeriCup, with head coachGordie Herbert tied up with Bayern Munich duties.
