Man Utd confirm when retro-inspired third kit will be worn for the first time, Dimitar Berbatov stars in unveiling

Manchester United and Adidas have launched a third kit for the 2025/26 season. It’s a throwback to the 90s.

Every summer, fans get excited about the release of new jerseys, and many opt to get their favourite players’ names on the back.

Manchester United will continue to have Adidas as their main shirt sponsor after the Red Devils signed a 10-year extension with the German sports manufacturer in June 2023.

The 2025/26 United home kit officially launched on June 12, 2025, and it’s primarily red in colour. It also features white logos and black accents.

A month later, the away kit was launched featuring a white, plum and modern lilac base with metallic trims.

It has an overlapping V-collar and it models the devil logo instead of the full club crest.

This meant United fans had to wait for the release of the third kit. Until now.

It features an all-black base with yellow accents, with the clover logo on the crest, with Adidas stressing that it is a perfect example of 90s nostalgia.

The black, yellow and blue palette was used before by United between 1993 and 1995.

Many United fans will remember that jersey as being the one worn by Eric Cantona when he leapt over the hoardings to kung-fu kick a Crystal Palace fan at Selhurst Park in 1995. It earned the Frenchman a nine-month ban.

It will also be remembered for when the club won the Double for the first time in 1993/94.

Three decades on, United will be wearing a similar kit and hope none of the players end up facing lengthy bans or injury spells.

When will Man Utd wear the third kit?

United will wear the Adidas iconic Trefoil logo on their third kit for the second consecutive season.

The Red Devils will sport the home shirt for the first two Premier League away games against Fulham and Man City.

There will be a change when United travel to Brentford in late September and the black third kit will be used.

United will also use the third kit at Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Arsenal and Sunderland later on in the 2025/26 campaign.

It could be used in more matches depending on who United draw in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Dimitar Berbatov stars in advert for third kit

Although the new third kit is a throwback to the early 90s, none of the players in the 1993-95 seasons were used to promote the new kit.

Instead, United’s commercial team called upon former striker Dimitar Berbatov to star in the advert to promote the third kit.

Berbatov spent four years at Old Trafford between 2008-2012, winning two Premier League titles.

The Bulgarian’s acting skills are top-notch.
