Man Utd want to add a midfielder to their squad in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have been in fresh contact with Carlos Baleba's representatives over a potential move in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim would love to add a midfielder to his squad before deadline day and has made the 21-year his top target for the mobile midfield role.
Initial indications are that it would take roughly £100 million to sign Baleba this summer, while Brighton sources insist the club do not need to sell the midfielder and will only sanction a sale that is on their terms. United believe there is a chance they could reach an agreement with the South Coast club, and they are not currently looking at alternative midfield targets.
United have already spent roughly £200 million to sign Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Diego Leon this summer, but would be able to amortise a deal for Baleba over a four or five-year period to bring the initial cost down this summer. There will be no chance of that happening unless Brighton agree to sell him though.

United in contact with Baleba's agent
Manchester United could test Brighton with an opening bid for Carlos Baleba in the coming days as they look to secure his signature before transfer deadline day on Monday 1 September. It is understood they are in regular contact with the player's representatives over a potential move, though Baleba has made it clear he would not mind staying at Brighton for another year if necessary.
Speaking in his latest YouTube video, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano offered an update on the pursuit. "On Manchester United, contacts continue for Carlos Baleba," he said.
"Today Manchester United spoke again to the agents of the player, they are prepared to understand how much Brighton want. This week I expect to try understand the situation directly with Brighton and let's see what is going to happen there.
"Baleba remains a topic at Man United, they are still not moving on another midfielder and it means Manchester United main the contact active for Baleba and also see if they can really make it happen or if it is impossible because Brighton still have no intention to reduce their price-tag."
