Despite Gianluigi Donnarumma being immediately available due to his fallout with PSG, Manchester United may not make an immediate move as they look to sort out their squad ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Manchester United may not make an immediate bid even if Gianluigi Donnarumma, arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the world, on Tuesday said that he is leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The Euro 2021 winner, with Italy and the current Champions League winner with PSG, made the explosive announcement after he was left out of the squad for Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup match against Tottenham.
“Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success,” Donnarumma wrote on Instagram. “I am disappointed and disheartened.”

Donnarumma also shared a message for the fans, as he bid a final goodbye.
“I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done,” Donnarumma added. “I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights and of you, who made me feel at home.”

PSG have already signed goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille, and manager Luis Enrique confirmed on Tuesday that it was his decision to leave Donnarumma out of the squad as he wants a player who play from the back.
“These are always difficult decisions to make, I know. I can only say good things about Gigio (Gianluigi). He’s one of the best players in his position, without a doubt, and he’s even better as a person,” Luis Enrique said. “We were looking for a different type of goalkeeper. And I repeat, it’s always difficult to make a decision like that.”
Donnarumma has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United ever since he refused to sign a contract extension at PSG. His current deal ends in 2026. However, despite Andre Onana’s poor performance in big matches in the last two seasons, The Athletic says that the Red Devils will not bid for Donnarumma till Onana is at the club.

Chelsea have also been linked with Donnarumma to replace Robert Sanchez, but there has been no concrete decision so far.
