Player ‘free to leave’ Sunderland despite impressing Le Bris – Work ongoing to find solution

Sunderland’s Jenson Seelt could be on his way to the Netherlands, according to the latest claims from the Dutch press.

The 22-year-old played 18 games since moving to the Stadium of Light in 2023. A knee injury forced him to spend the majority of past 12 months on the sidelines and didn’t make an appearance for Sunderland’s first team last season.

NEC Nijmegen can open the door for him this summer as De Gelderlander reports they have identified the centre-back as a target.

On Tuesday, the Premier League newcomers completed the signing of centre-back Omar Alderete from Getafe.

Following the Pargauayan’s arrival, De Gelderlander now report Seelt is now free to leave’ Régis Le Bris’ side.

Voetbal International are also reporting the Eredivisie club have set their sights on Seelt and want to sign him in this window.

According to VI, the Dutchman impressed Le Bris during the pre-season, but Sunderland feel he’s not yet ready for the Premier League. Therefore, the English club believe it would beneficial to send the defender on loan elsewhere so that he continues his development.

This favours NEC Nijmegen, who have been planning to sign him for the past few weeks.
