Newcastle United have agreed a £40m fee with Aston Villa to sign Jacob Ramsey, according to The Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath.
The Magpies have been desperate to strengthen their squad this summer as they prepare for a second Champions League campaign in three seasons, with Eddie Howe at the helm.
Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale were the first two signings before Newcastle added a new centre-back to the squad in the shape of Malick Thiaw on Tuesday night, and now they have moved quickly to seal their fourth signing of the window too in midfield.
Newcastle Agree Fee for Jacob Ramsey
Jacob Ramsey in action for Aston Villa
Ramsey, who has been described as 'special' by TNT Sports, has been strongly linked with a move away from his boyhood club all summer as Unai Emery looks to raise funds during the transfer window.
The England youth international has put in some impressive performances in recent years but has never been able to truly establish himself as a sure-fire starter in the side, and that has left Newcastle with a window to strike a deal.
It has now emerged that the Magpies have agreed a £40m package for the 24-year-old with Aston Villa, but the player will now discuss personal terms with Newcastle before travelling to undergo a medical.
GIVEMESPORT correspondent Fabrizio Romano revealed late on Monday night via his X account that a deal for Ramsey was 'imminent', and it now seems that the deal has taken a step closer to being done.
West Ham United had also been very keen on a move for Ramsey this summer, with GMS sources revealing they had made him their top target for the midfield, but the player was never keen on a move to the London Stadium as he was seeking Champions League football if he were to leave Villa.
Now the dynamic midfielder has got his move and will compete with the likes of Joelinton, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy and co to start alongside the likes of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon in an attacking team.
Ramsey registered four goals and five assists in 44 appearances for Villa in 2024/25, but his performances were key to the team reaching the Champions League quarter-finals and FA Cup semi-final.
