Hull City hopeful of beating Sheffield Wednesday to Premier League loan deal

Hull City believe they are ‘leading the chase’ for Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer, according to HullLive.

Hull City want to sign the youngster on loan before the end of the transfer window. HCAFC have until the deadline on Monday 1st September to complete any final bits of incoming or outgoing business.

Collyer, 21, has been on the books at Manchester United since 2022. Prior to his move to Old Trafford, he spent time at Brighton and Hove Albion.

In this latest update regarding his situation, HullLive have claimed that the Tigers are ‘hopeful’ of winning the race for his signature ahead of other Championship teams. Sheffield Wednesday are known to be keen, as per The Star.

Collyer told BBC Sport last month: “The end goal for me is to play as many minutes as possible here (at Manchester United), hopefully starting every week. I’ll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what’s the best solution for that and the best way for me to develop, whether it’s stay here or go on loan.”

Regarding his injury issues last season, he added: “I was annoyed about the injuries. It was just a hamstring injury but you always want to give your best. It’s also about knowing your body and doing the right things on and off the pitch, that you can’t go 100% every day. You need to understand when your body needs to rest.”

Hull City latest regarding Toby Collyer pursuit

Hull City could see Collyer as someone to boost their midfield department. He would give HCAFC more competition and depth in the middle of the park if he joined.

The Tigers currently have options such as Regan Slater, John Lundstram and Matt Crooks at their disposal in his position. They are a bit light still in that department.

Collyer rose up through the ranks at Brighton and Hove Albion before Manchester United came calling. He has since made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, six of which have come in the league.

What now for Hull City?

Hull City are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Oxford United. HCAFC drew 0-0 away at Coventry City on the opening day.

The Tigers were dumped out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night after losing to Wrexham on penalties. They led 3-1 at the Racecourse Ground before their opponents pegged them back to 3-3 with two goals in stoppage time from Ollie Palmer.

Sergej Jakirovic’s side have delved into the market over recent times to bring in the likes of Oli McBurnie, Joel Ndala and Enis Destan to bolster their ranks. They have the chance to get some more players through the entrance door over the coming weeks.
