Manchester City in transfer battle with Chelsea for Xavi Simons

Manchester City have entered the transfer race for Chelsea target Xavi Simons.

According to journalist [Sacha Tavolieri](https://x.com/sachatavolieri/status/1954872900567044223), the Citizens have contacted Simons’ representatives, as they look to secure a summer move for the 22-year-old.

Chelsea have been in talks with RB Leipzig over a deal worth £60 million for the Dutch footballer, who has also shown his willingness to join the London outfit.

But their Premier League rivals City could complicate matters for them.

Pep Guardiola’s side view Simons as an ideal replacement for Savinho, who has emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

City are said to be ready to sell the Brazilian if they receive an offer in excess of £50m.

Simons scored ten goals and provided seven assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig last season.

But the German outfit finished seventh in the table, missing out on European football in 2025-26.

Simons, who is contracted with Leipzig until 2027, is keen to explore a move away from the Red Bull Arena this summer.

Chelsea, [who are targeting back-to-back top-four finishes in 2025-26](https://footballtoday.com/2025/08/13/chelsea-2025-26-preview/), have been active in the summer transfer market.

They signed Liam Delap early in the window, and have since completed moves for Mamdou Sarr, Kendry Paez, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and most recently Jorrel Hato.

To balance the books, Enzo Maresca’s side have also sold many stars, including Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Lesley Ugochukwu and Armando Broja.

However, they are still looking to trim their squad and are open to offers for Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Renato Veiga.

Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup by beating Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

They also comfortably won their two club friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan.
