**Last night, Newcastle United announced the arrival of Malick Thiaw from AC Milan, but no sooner had fans taken in the club's Thiaw-based media than they were being teased with another arrival.**
Also, last night, it was being reported by several sources that things were progressing between Newcastle United and Aston Villa over a deal for midfielder Jacob Ramsey.
Ramsey burst onto the scene at Aston Villa and was quickly being talked about for the senior England side, but he started to fall down the pecking order under Unai Emery.
He's still touted as having huge potential, however, and if anyone can coax that out of him now, it's Eddie Howe.

Fabrizio Romano says a deal could be done today for Jacob Ramsey

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update via X this morning, which says that a verbal agreement is in place and a £40 million move could be completed today.
The 24-year-old is very keen on the move to Tyneside, so the deal shouldn't take much to get done, and personal terms will be nice and simple.
If only all transfers went as smoothly as this one has been, and as quickly.

Newcastle could still end up with a good transfer window

If Newcastle can get Ramsey over the line before the start of the season this weekend, that just leaves the striker situation to sort out.
Yoane Wissa is sure to arrive at some point, and that just leaves the Alexander Isak replacement to find and convince to join.
There's still a very good chance that this ends up being a good window after all the pain and suffering we've had to endure since the window opened.
