Report: Rodrigo Muniz's exit from Fulham moves one step closer as Leeds United watch on

Rodrigo Muniz is the man that Daniel Farke wants to bring to Leeds United this summer. And after a transfer window of back and forth, it looks as though Muniz to Elland Road could quickly gather speed.

Rodrigo Muniz impressed for Fulham last season. The Cottagers’ super sub scored eight goals in just eight starts for Fulham before the Brazilians’ surprise links to Leeds United emerged.

At the start of the summer transfer window, it was claimed that Leeds United were interested in signing Muniz. But Fulham’s apparent £50m asking price has so far deterred clubs from signing the 23-year-old, with Leeds among the clubs to have a bid rejected for Muniz already this summer.

But as the start of the new season draws closer, so too the end of the summer transfer window, reports linking Muniz with a move to West Yorkshire are quickly picking up. It is understood that Muniz remains Leeds United’s number one striker target this summer, though Daniel Farke is facing competition for his signature.

It is reported that Serie A side Atalanta are confident they can sign Muniz this summer, having already had a £34.5m bid rejected. Atalanta believe they can sign Muniz for £38m, per reports.

Fulham want Mehdi Taremi, it could free up Rodrigo Muniz to join Leeds United

Muniz seems as though he’s on the peripheries of leaving Craven Cottage, but it has long been reported that Fulham want to sign a replacement for the striker before even considering his exit. And now it looks as though Fulham may well have their replacement lined up, and it’s a familiar name in Mehdi Taremi at Inter Milan.

Leeds United are interested in signing Taremi right now, and the Whites have been quite strongly linked with a move for the 33-year-old Iranian international too. However, emerging reports in Italy claim that Fulham look set to win the race for Taremi. According to Gazzetta dello Sport‘s print edition, Taremi is likely to join Fulham this summer, but he and the Cottagers are still apart in terms of salary demands.

Fulham will not meet his €3m (£2.59m) per season salary, it is thought, but if Taremi can lower his wage demands then he will quickly seal a move to Fulham. That, in turn, would have a huge say on Muniz’s future and potentially open the door on a move to Leeds United.

Despite that, it has been reported that Muniz would prefer a move to Serie A this summer, so a potential move to Leeds United remains up in the air, if not unlikely. Though Muniz’s Fulham exit can now ramp up either way.

Bold Rodrigo Muniz prediction made ahead of possible Leeds United move

It is obvious that Farke still needs one or two more new strikers this summer. Mateo Joseph has already left on loan to join RCD Mallorca whilst Bamford has been completely exiled from the first-team picture ahead of an expected move away from Elland Road. But for Leeds United, potential striker options have drawn very mixed reactions from fans.

Names like Michail Antonio and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been linked with Leeds United, but neither have done much to impress the Elland Road faithful. Then there’s the likes of Muniz, Taremi who could now join Fulham, and also former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic who is a reported target for Leeds United, though the Serbian currently earns a staggering £400,000-a-week in Saudi Arabia.

Muniz is the one that Leeds United want, though, and former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has tipped Muniz to keep Leeds United in the Premier League next season should he join.

Speaking about the possibility of Mitrovic or Muniz arriving at the club, Robinson said: “Those are the types of players I’d like to see come in at Leeds. Someone who comes in the door and you think, yeah, he’s going to score 15 goals to keep us in the Premier League.”

Leeds United kick off their Premier League campaign with a home game against Everton on Monday.
