Fulham leverage Newcastle United interest to create auction – Magpies may be used

On Tuesday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Fulham were pushing interest from Leeds United to threaten Atalanta’s chase of Rodrigo Muniz. Now, the London club could be doing the same with Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old Brazilian is a key target for the Italian side, who are seeking replacements for Mateo Retegui.

Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport reports Muniz is only interested in a move to Atalanta.

He asked to be excluded from the pre-season friendly squad against Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend, pushing for a transfer to go through quickly.

Gazzetta state that Newcastle United are also chasing Muniz, and there’s talk of an auction being encouraged. Fulham are open to the player’s sale but none of the interested clubs have met their €45m price tag.

This information coincides with Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi’s trip to England to potentially iron out an agreement.

After the attempts to use Leeds United interest to push the price higher, it would appear similar is happening with Newcastle United. Meanwhile, Muniz’s camp are insisting his desire is a move to Serie A.
