Micah Parsons and the Cowboys’ contract saga has become a storyline nobody saw coming. It all started when the four-time Pro Bowler publicly requested a trade, frustrated by slow-moving negotiations and what he felt were broken promises from owner Jerry Jones.
On FS1’s First Things First, analyst Chris Broussard didn’t hold back, saying outright that Jones is enjoying not paying Parsons all because it keeps the spotlight on Dallas Sportskeeda+1. Broussard went as far as calling the whole thing a “soap opera,” suggesting the delay is a strategy—not a mistake. If Parsons were signed, he argued, the Cowboys would fade into the background behind teams like the Eagles and Washington.

“No, no question about it,” Broussard said. “I mean, he said as much, we talked about in the first segment, like this is a soap opera. His words, ‘If no attention is being paid to us, I will be, I will stir something up.’
“If Micah were signed, we would not be paying much attention to the Cowboys. I mean, if they are the Cowboys, we’ll talk about them a little bit, but they would be behind Philadelphia, Washington. The Giants are looking pretty good. Like, we wouldn’t really be talking about them, but now we are.”

Jones seems to have leaned on his old-school business style too. He mentioned there was a verbal agreement—a handshake deal—but Parsons’ side says an agent wasn’t present, making the promise feel hollow. Critics also point out that while peers like T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett secured major deals, the Cowboys have dragged their feet, potentially risking not only Parsons’ confidence but the team’s overall performance.

Adam Schefter unleashes bombshell on Micah Parsons’ contract standoff
Micah Parsons’ long-awaited contract extension with the Cowboys seems further off than ever, per Adam Schefter. Talks have “bogged down” since spring—there’s been little forward movement, no new offers, and both sides are digging in deeper with no sign of a breakthrough. What’s more, once his agent got involved, the negotiations reportedly slowed further.
“I think Jerry feels like they had the makings of a deal, if not an agreement in place,” said Shefter. “He talked to reporters last week about the fact that when he bought the Cowboys, it was a handshake deal. That’s what he said. And he’s done a lot of handshake deals over time. And again, Micah feels like he never saw a contract, never agreed to anything. His agent never signed off on anything.
