Calvert-Lewin 'reaches agreement' to sign for Premier League club on free transfer

Leeds United have reportedly won the race to sign forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

With his long-serving stint with Everton having come to an end earlier this summer, the England international has been on the look out for a new club.

A wide array of Premier League clubs have been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, who is eager to kick-start his career after a disappointing final campaign at Goodison Park.

Most recently, Aston Villa were said to be considering whether to sign Calvert-Lewin as backup to undisputed first-choice frontman Ollie Watkins.

Instead, as per journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, Leeds are seemingly on the brink of signing the experienced striker.

Leeds reach agreement for Calvert-Lewin

The report claims that an agreement has been reached in principle for the player to make the move to Elland Road.

Calvert-Lewin will now undergo a medical at the club's training facilities with the view of finalising a transfer.

He is no stranger to Yorkshire having been born in Sheffield and made 12 appearances for Sheffield United as a youngster.

Leeds will be hoping that Calvert-Lewin will be able to improve on his record of 57 goals and 18 assists from 239 matches in the Premier League.

However, he has netted just 17 times across the last four top-flight campaigns, including only three from 26 outings in 2024-25.

The striker that Leeds need?

While Daniel Farke has been able to significantly strengthen his first-team squad ahead of the club's Premier League return, he is yet to sign a recognised number nine.

Only Lukas Nmecha, who can play in a number of attacking roles, has been acquired to compete with Joel Piroe for a role down the centre.

Mateo Joseph has also been allowed to leave on loan for Mallorca, making a new striker even more of a priority.
