Barcelona had been eyeing Benjamin Sesko as potential Robert Lewandowski successor

Benjamin Sesko has left RB Leipzig for a big-money move to Manchester United in a move that has reportedly “hurt” Barcelona.

Diario Sport say that Sesko had been eyed up as a potential replacement for aging striker Robert Lewandowski next summer.

Lewandowski will turn 37 later this month and is expected to depart next year when his contract at the Camp Nou expires.

Barcelona will therefore need a replacement and it seems Sesko was a potential option. The Catalans will also be aware that he’s not the only big-name striker on the move this summer.

Viktor Gyokeres has swapped Sporting for Arsenal, Hugo Ekitike is now a Liverpool player (and may soon be joined by Alexander Isak), while Erling Haaland is now locked down to a contract at Manchester City that runs until 2034.

Barcelona still have a year to consider how to replace Lewandowski - with Julian Alvarez previously mentioned as a potential target - in what will be a key decision for Deco and Co.
