Benjamin Sesko has joined Man Utd and given a shirt number worn by only a dozen players in the club’s history.
Sesko Keeps His Trusted Number at Man Utd
**Manchester United**’s new recruit, Benjamin Sesko, has made an instant splash before even kicking a ball for the Red Devils. The striker has arrived from RB Leipzig over the weekend. He was paraded at Old Trafford ahead of the 1-1 pre-season draw with Fiorentina.
Fans didn’t just see their new signing, they also got confirmation of his squad number. Sesko will wear the number 30 shirt for the Red Devils. That is a number he has carried since his early breakthrough at RB Salzburg back in 2020. He took it with him to Germany and now brings it to England. He is cementing it as part of his football identity.
The rumours started when Diego Leon, who had worn 30 earlier, was spotted sporting 35 before the Fiorentina match. That was the clue many supporters needed. Moments later, Sesko emerged in the famous red with 30 on his back.
A number with a modest history
Only 12 players before Sesko have worn 30 for Man Utd. That makes it a special but understated shirt. The first to take it was John O’Kane in the 1993-94 season, though his appearances were few. Over the years, it has passed through youth graduates like Michael Twiss, Ronnie Wallwork and Ritchie De Laet.
Other recognizable names such as John O’Shea and Wes Brown also had the same kit number. They both wore it before moving on to numbers 22 and 6 respectively.
Most recently, goalkeeper Nathan Bishop had the shirt but never featured in a competitive game before leaving for Sunderland. For Sesko, the number 30 is more than just digits. Now, it’s part of his journey. He’ll aim to give it new meaning at the Theatre of Dreams.
