Dominic Calvert-Lewin could feature in Everton’s nightmares for days on end following the latest transfer news.

The forward has spent most of his senior career with the Toffees after signing for the club in 2016.

Calvert-Lewin went on to achieve several milestones with Everton, including netting 66 and providing 20 assists in 229 appearances for the Merseyside club.

But all good things must come to an end, and Calvert-Lewin confirmed his departure earlier this summer. The Blues would have been hopeful for a reunion down the line, but not in the way it is likely to unravel.

Calvert-Lewin to ‘haunt’ Everton in Premier League opener

The former Everton forward has been linked with several suitors since confirming his desire to leave. This includes AC Milan, whose name surfaced in January when it was possible to sign a pre-contract.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

But it seems that Leeds United have won the race. As reported by David Ornstein via X on Wednesday, 13 August, Leeds have reached an agreement in principle to sign the striker, and he is set to undergo a medical.

He is scheduled at Thorp Arch to undergo a medical soon before completing his Leeds transfer

While the England international will be ecstatic about his transfer, he could come back to haunt the Toffees sooner than anticipated.

Everton take on Leeds at Elland Road on Monday, 18 August, in their opening Premier League match of the season. David Moyes will be keen to snatch a win and get the new campaign off on the right foot.

But a reunion on the pitch with a former player tends to cause trouble for clubs. Calvert-Lewin will want to show his previous employers what they’re missing.

As a result, Everton will need to prepare for every possible scenario before the first whistle is blown.

Moyes needs a win against Leeds

With shiny new recruit Jack Grealish in tow and everything to achieve next season, Moyes must start things off on the right foot.

Everton are expected to win big next season, and a victory in their opener would move things along. While one defeat in a 38-game campaign seems inconsequential, Everton must start as they wish to go on.

A win would set a precedent for the fans, players and opposition teams of the Toffees’ intent to lead a competitive season. Therefore, Calvert-Lewin or not, a victory is essential next week.
