Atalanta and Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing 24-year-old Brazilian striker Rodrigo Muniz from Fulham in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Rodrigo Muniz is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are eager to reinforce their offensive unit by signing another striker in the summer transfer window despite landing Lukas Nmecha. So, the 24-year-old Fulham centre-forward has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.
Recent reports have suggested that the South American striker has been inching closer to joining Atalanta. However, with La Dea and Fulham yet to find a common ground on the transfer fee, leaving Leeds United hopeful of securing his services in the summer transfer window. The Cottagers are keen on recouping €45 million from the player’s sale.
Rodrigo Muniz and his Fulham career so far
Rodrigo Muniz has been in and out of the starting lineup since joining Fulham from Flamengo in August 2021. The 24-year-old has been with the West London outfit for nearly four yeae rs,h but did not enjoy his breakthrough at Craven Cottage until the 2023/24 season. However, he struggled for regular starts last term.
Raul Jimenez was the first-choice striker for Fulham, and Muniz did not even manage 1,500 minutes of game time across 36 appearances in all competitions. However, he contributed to 13 goals by finding the back of the net 11 times and providing two assists. Meanwhile, the Brazilian striker’s stock in the market is high, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Leeds United’s interest in Rodrigo Muniz makes sense. The Whites are combing the market for a striker this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Patrick Bamford’s future. Daniel Farke has already confirmed his decision to sanction the latter’s sale this summer. Additionally, Mateo Joseph has joined RCD Mallorca on a season-long loan deal.
Leeds United will thus need another striker, even though they have signed Lukas Nmecha this summer, with Muniz emerging as a viable target. However, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners have already failed with a bid to sign the 24-year-old attacker, and recent reports have claimed that he wants to join Serie A club Atalanta.
Nevertheless, the transfer saga has not ended, as Atalanta and Fulham differ on Muniz’s valuation. While the West London outfit will demand €45 million to part ways with the 24-year-old Brazilian striker, the Serie A outfit will hope to secure his services for around €40 million. That has left Leeds United hopeful of landing Muniz, and it will be interesting to see if they succeed.
