Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been one of the most fiercely talked about names this summer, but now he is set to join Leeds United.

The striker departed Everton in June after nine years with the Merseyside club and has been searching for a fresh challenge.

Leeds have been holding talks with Calvert-Lewin, but a move to Elland Road is accelerating, with an agreement in principle now in place.

With the 28-year-old ready for his next venture, former Peacocks boss Marcelo Bielsa has had some positive words to say about Calvert-Lewin.

Calvert-Lewin is set to be the solution for the Whites after being linked with several Premier League clubs this summer.

Last season, the striker only netted three times in the Premier League, although he missed a significant stretch of games with a hamstring injury, which will have been noted.

What Bielsa said about Calvert-Lewin

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson called Calvert-Lewin a risk earlier this summer when discussing the possibility of a move to Elland Road.

However, Bielsa had more encouraging things to say about the former Sheffield United man when the Whites played Everton at Goodison Park during his tenure.

“It’s not easy to neutralise him. The whole team made a big effort defensively to stop him, especially our centre-backs against him,” Bielsa said via Leeds Live on 28 November 2020.

“But he had chances to score, and we worked so that the opportunities he had on goal would be difficult ones. But nonetheless, he was a player who was as dangerous as he usually is.”

316 career appearances

85 goals

18 assists

Now, the Peacocks will be hoping that Bielsa’s words come to fruition at Elland Road in what will be an intriguing move.

Calvert-Lewin must prove his fitness, but if he can hit the highs of his early years at Everton, then he would be a worthwhile addition.
